Volvo has officially launched the EX30 in South Africa, which goes to market as one of the most accessible fully electric vehicles in the country.
The EX30 has been described by Volvo as the cornerstone of their global transformation in the fast-growing new-energy vehicle space with the range structured to appeal to a wide range of customers, including a younger demographic.
Positioned with a starting price from just R775 900, the five-strong local line-up gives South Africans the opportunity to own a premium fully electric SUV for the price of a similarly sized internal combustion engined vehicle.
Mind blowing performance along with usable range
The Volvo EX30 will be offered in multiple configurations, which will allow customers to choose the powertrain options, battery types and trim levels that suit their budget and requirements.
In 315kW TwinMotor Performance guise, which is powered by two electric motors it is the fastest accelerating Volvo ever, capable of completing the 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.6 seconds along with a range of 460km.
The EX30 Core Single Motor rear wheel drive model boasts peak outputs of 200kW and 343Nm, allowing for a 0 -100km/h sprint time of 5,7 seconds and a range of 344km thanks to a 51kWh battery. The 200kW Single Motor Extended range powertrain can cover up to 476km on the WLTP cycle thanks to a 69kWh battery and results in an improved 0-100km/h time of 5,3 seconds.
Modern sustainable interior
The EX30’s revolutionary yet minimalistic cabin, that features natural and recycled leather-free materials, is fitted with a new contextual single-screen UX, complete with Google core services built-in and running the latest version of Volvo’s infotainment system that is powered by a Qualcomm snapdragon processor. A Harmon Kardon premium sound system that features a sound bar offers a total of 1040W combined power for an in car listening experience that was previously reserved for high-end home theatre rooms.
Complimenting the vehicle is a unique Volvo EX30 app that offers functionality such as over the air updates, a find my car function and a digital key, which can be shared with trusted contacts.
Three trim levels to choose from
Core models feature specification such as a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, rear park assist, 18-inch five spoke alloys, seven-airbags and a raft of driver-assistance features.
Mid-spec Plus grade derivatives gain ambient interior lighting, wireless smartphone charging, a Harmon Kardon premium sound system, a heat pump and power-operated tailgate as well as 19-inch eight spoke alloy wheels, two-zone climate control and front and rear park assist.
Flagship Ultra specification models feature additional luxuries such as a fixed panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, a 360-degree parking camera, Park Pilot Assist, a 22kW onboard charger and 20-inch five-spoke alloys.
