Volkswagen is set to introduce the all-new Transporter later this month. The new model offers more space, a wider range of body styles, a higher payload and greater economy.
An authentic design
The design pays homage to its predecessors. The radiator grille reminds of the T5, the headlights of the T6.1 while the T1 is visible in the iconic clarity. All these features come together in the look of the brand-new Volkswagen Transporter while the LED headlamps ensure that the new model is an unmistakeable face in the crowd.
When viewed from the side, the upper contour of the headlights has been extended as a line into the side section, continuing through to the rear. Above this is the Bulli line, a pronounced linear curvature, that divides the upper and lower areas of the body while paying homage to the first-generation Transporter.
The rear has a homogenous design that gives it the clean look typical of a VW van. The new Transporter can be ordered with a boot lid or wing doors.
A variety of engines to choose from
The new-generation Transporter will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI engine that is offered in three power outputs, namely 81kW, 110kW and 125kW paired with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 125kW model will be combined with an eight-speed automatic gearbox exclusively, along with a choice of front wheel drive or 4Motion all-wheel drive.
A larger interior
The interior has been designed to be a professional and flexible work environment. The seats have a particularly ergonomic design and include a four-way adjustable seat in the base versions or optional individual seats with electric eight-way adjustment and four-way lumbar adjustment on the top of the range derivatives. The electronic parking brake and a selector lever on the steering column for the automatic gearbox frees up considerable space in the footwell.
The new cockpit is arranged on an axis that is easy for the driver to see and consists of a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and the 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The interior mirror is optionally available as a digital screen, an important feature especially for vehicles with a partition.
The interior is bigger in every direction and thanks to this increased length, width and wheelbase it has allowed Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to enlarge the load capacity of the new Transporter.
Compared to its predecessor the new Transporter offers significantly more space, a higher payload and a greater towing capacity. The long wheelbase version can accommodate three Euro pallets and features a payload of 1.33 tonnes, while the maximum trailer weight increases to 2.8 tonnes (depending on the engine option).
Well equipped
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has significantly expanded the standard equipment package of the new Transporter compared to its predecessor. Standard features now include LED headlights incorporating Light Assist, an electronic parking brake with auto hold function, a 12-inch Digital Cockpit and 13-inch infotainment system, a multifunction steering wheel, keyless start system, a rain sensor, lane assist, front assist and dynamic road sign display.
