Volkswagen South Africa are on the brink of an extensive product rollout and have confirmed that they will launch three new SUVs locally in 2024.
Volkswagen T-Cross freshened up
Volkswagens compact SUV, the T-Cross, has received a nip and tuck and will go on sale here in the second half of 2024. The updates are significant and include a freshened design as well as a new range of engine options.
Exterior changes include a redesigned front and rear design, that now incorporates new LED headlights, daytime running lights and LED taillight clusters. The IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights will be offered as an option. An R-Line derivative will form part of the range and features a specification package that includes sporty accents.
The interior features updates in the form of a floating infotainment screen that measures either eight or nine inches depending on the model variant. All T-Cross models will feature the digital cockpit as standard and interior trim including the dash panel and door panels have been updated with high-quality materials and soft-upholstering. While leather will be available, the seats on Style and R-Line derivative are covered in a sustainable fabric.
The complete model line-up including engine and exact model specification will be confirmed closer to the local launch date.
Tiguan treated to new design language
Volkswagen South Africa will also launch the all-new Tiguan in the second half of this year which features a redefined aesthetic along with a confident and modern design. Setting the new Tiguan apart is a higher, more powerful-looking front end that incorporates integrated headlights which are now standard across the range. Replacing the traditional radiator grille is a glass covered bar along with an optionally integrated LED strip. The shoulder line is dominated by an athletic shoulder line above the wheel housings which are home to wheel sizes of up to 20-inches in size. The design language is carried through to the rear where a horizontal LED strip between the taillights emphasises the width.
The interior has received a complete redesign which incorporates the latest high-quality materials. The technology suite has been updated to include the latest modular infotainment matrix which creates a cockpit that is intuitive to operate. The layout comprises a new Digital Cockpit, a large infotainment screen that measures up to 15-inches and ambient lighting in a variety of colours.
Brand new ergoActve seats with pneumatic four-way lumbar adjustment and a 10-chamber massage function, which are standard fitment on R Line models elevate the premium interior even further.
Touareg gains additional tech
Volkswagen’s top of the range SUV has also been updated with new design elements and high-tech features ahead of its local launch in the second half of 2024.
The updates include a revised exterior design. Upfront the unit formed by the radiator grille, headlights and front apron have been reworked and the grille is now slimmer while the lower air intakes are substantially larger. The IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights have been refined and feature a glare free beam.
The rear has been updated by way of a sharper design which now incorporates a continuous horizontal LED strip for the taillight clusters while incorporating a red illuminated Volkswagen logo.
The interior has been advanced with a variety of additional standard equipment such as standard voice control and faster charging USB-C connections. Soft front door covers with double stitching and Varenna leather seats with an R-Line logo and massage function upfront add to the premium appeal as does an enhanced ambient lighting package which includes a Touareg script embedded onto the dashboard. The Touareg features an extensive list of driver assistance and convenience features as standard including Travel Assist, Trailer Assist and Night Vision.
In South Africa, the new Touareg will continue to be offered exclusively with a 3.0 TDI engine that boasts 190kW and puts power down to the road via an eight-speed automatic gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
