Citroën are expanding their local offering with the launch of the C3 Aircross which offers SUV versatility along with a muscular design and modern, turbocharged drivetrain resulting in an offering that represents excellent value for money in this segment.
The Citroën C3 has been a top seller for the Stellantis stable locally, and the group hopes that the Aircross will follow in its footsteps as it too represents excellent value for money.
The Citroën C3 Aircross is a unique package that families will appreciate, as it combines distinctive signature Citroën brand design markers with pure SUV attributes into a muscular and eye-catching design.
Standout features include 17-inch alloys, an assertive front face with a high bonnet, wide track width, Citroën Y-shaped lighting signature and powerful double grille with lower skid plate. 200mm of ground clearance, muscular wheel arches and resilient protective cladding reinforce the SUV credentials.
Under the bonnet
Both the C3 Aircross MAX and MAX7 are powered by Citroën’s acclaimed 1.2-litre turbocharged PureTech three-cylinder engine which delivers 81kW at 5 500rpm and 205Nm from 1 750rpm. Unique to this segment is the fact that these models are mated to a six-speed torque convertor automatic transmission which does a great job of keeping the engine in the sweet spot in a seamless manner. Citroën claim that the C3 Aircross will use just 6,3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.
Roomy, comfortable interior
The Citroën C3 Aircross is a B-SUV contender that offers space for seven-occupants making it unique in that aspect. The 5+2 seating configuration offers increased versatility, while also allowing the additional seating to be easily removed.
The five-seater version offers generous kneeroom for rear seat passengers and a 444-litre boot. The seven-seater version adds intelligent modularity including a third row and two individual seats.
The instrument panel is finished with a unique soft-touch grain across the middle and is home to a seven-inch TFT cluster. A 10-inch touchscreen facilitates the key infotainment and connected services which include wireless smartphone mirroring via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Standard safety specification includes dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, Electronic Stability Programme on turbocharged models, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill-hold assist, a rear-view camera and PDC.
The C3 Aircross is manufactured in India and was developed for warm climates and harsh roads which are commonplace in South Africa too. This translates into excellent ride quality and damping, as it smooths out the bumps.
