GWM are expanding their Tank offering to include the larger Tank 500. This new model offers a combination of elegance, advanced technology and exceptional off-road capability while epitomising luxury.
As GWM’s latest flagship model, the Tank 500 offers the latest in technology which includes a variety of advanced features aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and safety, on and off-road use and off-road driving capabilities.
In your face exterior
The rather large exterior dimensions of the Tank 500 are highlighted by bold design elements and chrome finishes. The front end is characterised by a bold chrome front grille and LED headlights. 20-inch alloy wheels and automatic side steps continue the theme along the side. The rear is characterised by a large spare wheel cover and chrome strip that runs across the length of the tailgate, vertical taillights and a satin silver lower skid plate complete the off-road look.
Luxury interior
The interior is ultra luxurious. For example, the seats are finished in nappa leather and are heated and ventilated for the driver and front passenger, while also offering an eight-point massage feature.
The second row of seats feature reclining seat backs, two-way adjustable headrests, separate climate control, seat cooling and charging points. Legroom can also be improved by sliding the seats backwards if there are no third-row passengers.
The third row of seats, which can accommodate passengers up to teenager size can be raised or folded electronically and feature their own roof mounted aircon vents.
Luggage space measures 795 litres with the third row of seats folded and 1459 litres with back rows of seats in the lowered position.
A 14.6-inch tablet style multimedia touchscreen display dominates the interior and offers seamless infotainment in conjunction with the 12-speaker Infinity system. In addition, a heads-up display projects crucial information such as speed, vehicle data and navigation directions onto the windshield.
The interior is characterised by a star theme lit dashboard panel ahead of the front passenger which provides a welcome addition to the ambience. The ambient lighting system also allows for almost unlimited customisation.
Soft lighting of the multi-media touchscreen, virtual instrument cluster and buttons surrounding the gear selector ensure a classy and luxurious feel. A panoramic sunroof adds an airy and roomy feel.
Safety of passengers has been prioritised and this is evident in the comprehensive suite of active and passive safety features, which includes Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Collision Warning, Cross Traffic Alert, Emergency Lane Keep Assist and Auto Intelligent Parking.
A 360-degree camera, auto emergency braking and lane departure warning systems provide a complete view around the car.
Under the bonnet
The Tank 500 is powered by a direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine that works in conjunction with the latest in electric driving technology to deliver a total power output of 255kW and 648Nm. The hybrid technology of the petrol-electric hybrid engine is highly integrated and utilises a robust lithium-ion battery.
This combination allows the Tank 500 to accelerate to 100km/h in just 8.3 seconds despite its weight of 2 605kg. This powerplant is paired to a smooth shifting nine-speed automatic gearbox which works in conjunction with 11 driving modes to ensure that drivers can easily conquer any terrain.
As with the Tank 300, the Tank 500 blends high-end luxury with robust off-road capabilities, making it the perfect vehicle for those that crave adventure without sacrificing, comfort or luxury.
