CHERY TIGGO 7 PRO ARRIVES IN SA

Chinese car manufacturer Chery has returned to the country in a big way, as new product launches and sales have proven over the past six months.

With the Tiggo 4 Pro now regularly selling over 500 units a month, and the Tiggo 8 Pro having been recently launched, Chery’s footprint in the market is growing by the day. And now they have introduced their third product, the Tiggo 7 Pro.

In terms of positioning, the range truly goes in numerical order; the Tiggo 4 Pro is the smallest, followed by the Tiggo 7 Pro, and then the Tiggo 8 Pro as the flagship. Yes, all three are SUVs, clearly taking advantage of the popularity of this type of vehicle. Tiggo 7 Pro is also quite sizeable, but keeps the five-seat configuration. The rear seats can be folded down flat for more loading space.

Before going inside, you see the large front grille with its chrome-like elements, hugging the Chery logo at the centre, and flanked by LED headlights. In turn, these split and drop onto the front bumper, into LED daytime running lights. The boot has strong lines that run to the rear, where we see a kink on the C-pillar. The rear lights are fused into a bar that runs across the length of the Tiggo 7 Pro. Wheels are 18-inches in diameter, with the Executive model sporting red brake callipers. There are two trims, the Distinctive and the Executive.

Inside, the car is first-class, as has been the case with the new Chery products. Leather surfaces intertwine with metal alloys as well as piano black touches that combine for a comfortable in-car experience. The infotainment system features things such as a “floating” 26cm touch screen with Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Bluetooth, as well as Voice Command. Furthermore, there is a second, smaller screen (17.8cm) behind the multifunction steering wheel. Other features include climate control, a panoramic sunroof and USB ports where needed. Wireless smartphone charging is also included in both models.

Chery has not gone for power in the Tiggo 7 Pro, choosing rather to use the 1.5-litre turbo petrol motor. It is good for 108kW and 210Nm of torque, delivered to all four wheels via a CVT transmission. Chery claims an average fuel consumption figure of around 10 litres per 100km, which is what has been the norm with this motor so far.

People are concerned with safety in their cars, and Chery has not left this aspect out at all. Safety features, include items such as a 360-degree view, ABS with EBD, Hill Assist, Hill Descent Control, Blind Spot Detection, 6 airbags, immobiliser system and Lane Departure Warning amongst others.
